When creating co*cktail recipes, I am always looking for fresh ingredients that are naturally low in sugar. This drink uses honey to sweeten it just a bit and bring out the strawberry flavors. As always, you can adjust the flavor and use as much honey as you’d like.
And strawberry and basil are a match made in summer heaven. To me, fresh basil is one of summer’s greatest pleasures. I haven’t had much success growing it in our backyard, but once we redo our garden beds, I want to try again! I think the California heat and sun is just too much for it.
Paleo Friendly co*cktail Recipe
If you are looking for a healthier co*cktail recipe, this strawberry basil vodka co*cktail is paleo compliant. It uses fresh fruit and herbs and honey to sweeten. Honey is paleo compliant in moderate amounts. Feel free to cut down on the amount of honey or swap it with monkfruit or raw maple syrup.

Let’s Make A Strawberry Basil Vodka co*cktail!
The full, printable recipe for this strawberry basil co*cktail is at the bottom of this post, but I will walk you through how to make this easy summer co*cktail.
Using 3 quartered strawberries with the stems removed, place them in the bottom of a glass along with the juice of 1/2 of a lime, a tablespoon or so (to taste) of honey and 2 basil leaves that are cut in chiffonade style. You can learn how to chiffonade fresh basil leaves here.
Muddle the ingredients until you have a somewhat smooth, but not pureed consistency. I explain how to muddle a co*cktail in the next section below.
Add the muddled ingredients to a co*cktail shaker along with 2 ounces of vodka and ice. Shake well and pour into a glass. Top with sparkling water or club soda and garnish with a fresh strawberry and basil leaf. Sip and enjoy this Strawberry Basil co*cktail!
How To Muddle Strawberries
Now, you may be wondering what muddling is or how to do it. Muddling is a technique used to gently mash herbs and fruit to release their juices and flavors. You can use a muddler or the back of a spoon to do this.
With the ingredients at the bottom of a glass, push down and twist at the same time to extract the flavors of your ingredients. Continue until you have the desired consistency for your co*cktail.
