From lower to middle school, Steward feels like a second home for them, fostering academic growth and personal joy.My son's love for learning in lower school is evident as he eagerly prepares for school each morning and is reluctant to leave at the end of each day. He adores his peers, his teachers, and the afterschool staff, who all allow him to thrive and develop into the delightful boy he is.My other son's transition to middle school at Steward has been a journey of self-discovery. He's explored diverse programs, discovering his talents and interests independently.I can speak from both parental and employee perspectives. 2. #2 Best Private High Schools in Henrico CountyCollegiate SchoolRichmond, VA·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.12 out of 5 77 reviewsParent: We feel very fortunate that our children benefit from the incredible Collegiate community! They love their school so much, and we are thankful for the core values of love, respect, integrity, excellence, and inclusion that are modeled and emphasized. The teachers work tirelessly, perfecting their craft while encouraging and guiding our children. There is a high bar set for them—but the children meet it! In the middle school, in particular, our kids have blossomed! They’ve grown in their independence, and the teachers support them when they “mess up,” using it to help them see that it is okay to make mistakes and helping them along the journey of growth and learning. We also love the single-sex approach in middle school! Everything Collegiate does is well-thought out and purposeful.... There is a heavy focus on academics, while also ensuring that students are able to find clubs and extracurriculars that interest them. There are plenty of fun events that the school offers, which creates a passionate and energetic community of students. However, from what I have heard, there are some teachers that are not very acknowledging of students' lives outside of school. But for the most part, teachers will actually care and try to help you succeed. It is very easy to build connections and bonds with most of them.... Godwin High SchoolHenrico County Public Schools, VA·9-12·Rating 3.83 out of 5 398 reviewsJunior: I'm currently a junior at Godwin's Center for Medical Sciences, and it is a unique experience. I've found it valuable, as it provides many opportunities in the medical and broader STEM field, whether through research projects/internships or STEM-focused classes. Many AP classes are offered, but in such a competitive environment, there's a risk of overextending yourself. Outside of the Center, I've found a supportive community here at Godwin, especially in performing arts (choir, although our other performing arts programs are amazing), and there's lots of school pride, especially during football season. I've had great experiences in my classes with supportive teachers who love teaching, including rigorous ones. Still, there's also the fact that Godwin's an old school, with an old campus, a comparative lack of diversity compared to other schools in Henrico, and from a Center perspective, fewer opportunities/facilities compared to other Specialty Centers and the Governor's School.... Glen Allen High School also connects students, of all different backgrounds, together through school activities. For example, every year, the school puts together a competition for all grade levels known as Battle of the Classes. Students participate in competitions throughout the year for Battle Night, where a dance and sports competitions are performed. Art is also showcased on Battle Night. 10. John Randolph Tucker High School9-12·Rating 4.03 out of 5 330 reviewsSenior: Overall, I have loved my experience at Tucker High School. Our student body is incredibly diverse, which is one of my favorite things about this school. We enjoy events like culture fairs and our annual Culture Fashion Show, among others. We also recently opened a new school building, which has been lovely. However, the new building has left us with cramped space, as not all teachers have their own classroom. Additionally, there are times when there is no space in the commons for me to sit and eat. This is partly because standing in the lunch line takes over half of my lunch break, which is only 25 minutes. Lastly, I am part of Tucker's Advanced College Academy, which allows students to earn their Associate's degree through dual enrollment credits. I am grateful that my school has this opportunity and it has been extremely rewarding.... 12. Hermitage High SchoolHenrico County Public Schools, VA·9-12·Rating 3.87 out of 5 331 reviewsSenior: Hermitage High has a lot of good characteristics and helpful resources for their students. I was able to be apart of the program that allows you to gain workable skills in your field of choice. However, the school needs to find a better way to retain their staff so all students can effectively achieve their goals. It makes it very difficult to obtain your education if the biggest moving part is your educator. I would also suggest to the school to find better ways to de-escalate matters before it turns into a fight. There were fights literally everyday for months on end. We the students and the staff must find a common ground to work with each other to reduce the amount of violence that occurs at Hermitage Hight. Overall, I have had some good experiences that will carry with me for a lifetime and I have some growing pains but all in all it has made me the person I am today. 13. Henrico High SchoolHenrico County Public Schools, VA·9-12·Rating 3.65 out of 5 372 reviewsFreshman: Henrico Highschool is such an amazing and diverse school with a performance-enhancing program in the arts. I am currently within the Center for the Arts, the name of the program. I take the visual arts discipline, and it has drastically improved my skills in the art. Other disciplines such as Musical Theater, Dance, and Theater helps students who attend increase their passion for their discipline. There are clubs that offer fun and experience to anyone who does not want to go into the CFA. I'd like to see improvements within the school lunch, heat and AC distribution, and bathroom passes. There will be a new policy soon where there will be more restrictions on phones. I think it will enhance the focus of the students, get them or engaged, and encourage them to talk to their peers more. I'd say the school is also pretty diverse, a multitude of backgrounds, ethnicities, sexualities and more. This school is incredibly supporting and will welcome anyone with a open heart....
